Dr. A.J. Contento was born and raised in the Bronx, NY. He attended PS 71, Our Lady Of The Assumption, Cardinal Spellman HS, Fordham University, and SUNY College of Optometry.
Dr. Contento is an Adjunct Clinical Professsor at SUNY College of Optometry where he graduated with honors in 1990. He was honored at SUNY with the #1 in Clinical Excellence for 1990. During his doctorate program he did an externship at the St. Albans Veterans Medical Center and a Residency at the North Port Veteran Medical Center specializing in ocular disease. Dr Contento is an active lecturer and is the Director of Optometry relations for Paragon Biotech. Dr. Contento is Certified by the Commission for the Blind and Visually Handicapped to treat Low Vision patients. He is a consultant for many pharmaceutical companies like Paragon Biotech and Allergan.
His passions are family, optometry, baseball, scouting and religion. Dr AJ Contento married Dr Annette Contento in 1989 and they are blessed with 4 children, Michael, Marissa, Robert and Jacqueline.
Dr. Evan Kaplan has been examining patients at Eye Care Unlimited ever since he founded the Practice with Dr. AJ Contento over 22 years ago. Along with full scope family eyecare, he specializes in cornea and contact lenses. Dr. Kaplan is a graduate of Washington University in St. Louis and SUNY/ College of Optometry where he received his Doctor of Optometry degree and an Master’s of Science degree in Vision Science. Following graduation, he completed a Fellowship in Cornea and Contact Lenses.
Dr. Kaplan has been an Associate Clinical Professor at SUNY College of Optometry since 1990, 17 of those years as the Chief of the Specialty Contact Lens Service. He is also an Attending Optometrist at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai teaching within the Cornea service. Over the years, he has taught over 1850 Optometry students and 110 Ophthalmology Residents.
Dr. Kaplan has been on the Board of Directors of the New York Academy of Optometry for the past 21 years, serving a 4 year term as President and has been the Secretary for the past 12 years. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and a Fellow of the International Association of Contact Lens Educators. He is a frequent lecturer on topics related to cornea surgery/conditions, specialty contacts lenses and dry eye disease and is a consultant for many contact lens and pharmaceutical corporations.
Dr. Kaplan has been married to Patricia for 24 years and have 4 wonderful daughters.
Dr. Annette Contento is a private practice full scope optometrist committed to serving the Bronx for over 20 years. She is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Queens College and attended SUNY College of Optometry where she graduated with high honors in 1991. Upon receiving her doctorate, she earned numerous recognitions, including awards for outstanding clinical skills in ocular disease and contact lenses. She received her Fellowship of the American Academy Of Optometry in 1995, and is a NYSOA Certified Low Vision specialist, helping visually impaired patients stay active and independent with the use of devices and social services.
Dr. Annette Contento spent many years serving on the board of directors for the SUNY College of Optometry Alumni Association where she was instrumental in enhancing the optometric experience for alumni, students, and ultimately, patients.
Dr. Contento is the proud mother of four successful children. Her caring personality allows her to provide small town family practice optometry here in the Bronx since 1993. Patients immediately feel welcomed and at home under Dr. Annette Contento’s care. She is always striving to bring state of the art care to her patients with her warm smile, genuine compassion and hard work.
Dr. Annette Contento is also a recognized Girl Scout leader for over 15 years, empowering young women to reach their goals as confident contributors to society. She serves on her community’s leadership team and organizes numerous workshops and events focusing on the education of girls. She is an active community member and does an exceptional job of balancing family life and a professional optometric career.
